GTA 5 Dev Says GTA 6 Map Must Be 'Monstrous' in Scale

A former Rockstar producer who worked on GTA 5 says he can only imagine how massive GTA 6's world must be — and expects it to be enormous.
Someone who helped build Grand Theft Auto V thinks GTA 6 is going to dwarf it. John Ricchio, a former Rockstar Games producer, told GamesRadar that he expects the upcoming title's world to be staggering in size — his words: "monstrous."
Ricchio worked on GTA 5, so he has a real frame of reference for what it takes to construct one of these open worlds. That context makes his comments land a little differently than your average outside speculation. He knows the internal scale of what Rockstar builds, and even he says he can "only imagine" what the team has put together for GTA 6.
It's worth keeping in mind that Ricchio is no longer at Rockstar, meaning he's working from the outside like the rest of us — his expectations are informed by experience, not insider knowledge. Still, a veteran who shipped one of the best-selling games of all time calling the next entry potentially "monstrous" carries some weight.
Rockstar has kept hard details about GTA 6's map tightly under wraps since the trailer dropped in late 2023. What we do know points to a fictional version of Miami and surrounding areas as the setting — a landscape that, by its nature, offers enormous variety. Whether the final world truly dwarfs Los Santos remains to be seen, but anticipation from people inside the industry is clearly running high.
With a 2025 release window still on the table for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, more concrete details about the map's actual scope should surface sooner rather than later.
